William SPARROW (circa 1734-?)

William SPARROW of Holbrook, Suffolk married Rose COOPER, of Wherstead, Suffolk, 7th October 1756 at Wherstead.

Children :- William (1759 (buried 22/8/1759 Holbrook)), William (1760).

William SPARROW (1760-?)

William SPARROW baptised 17th September 1760 Holbrook, Suffolk, married Mary SEXTON in 1782 at Freston, Suffolk. Children :- John (1785), Joseph (1787), Mary (1790), Sarah (1791), Seth (1794), Robert (1796).

Robert SPARROW (1796-1845)

Robert SPARROW of Erwarton, Suffolk, married Mary MALLETT of Shotley, at Shotley Parish Church, Suffolk on 1st July 1821. Later censuses show Mary's birth place as Henley, Suffolk, although no trace of her baptism has been found. A record of births created at the start of civil registration by the Church Minister of Chelmondiston Baptist Church (National Archives reference RG4/1835) records the births of three of Robert & Mary's children Samuel, John and Joseph, which suggests the family were attending Chelmondiston Baptist at this time. The very detailed birth records also tells us that Mary MALLETT's parents were Joseph & Mary MALLETT.

Children :- Harriet (1823), Robert (1824), James (1827), Joseph (1830), John (1832), Samuel (1833)

Harriett SPARROW (1823-1846)

Married Joseph GARROD, 1844, born Shotley 1820 son of William GARROD and Deborah WARD. Harriet died in June 1846 and was buried at Shotley.

Joseph GARROD remarried twice, first to Eleanor GARDINER on 27th August 1848 and after Eleanor died in 1859 he then married Elizabeth BORRETT in 1861.

Children :- Thomas (1842)

Thomas SPARROW (1842-?)

Thomas was born 16th July 1842, Shotley, Suffolk, son of Harriett SPARROW, no father was listed as Thomas was illegitimate. Thomas's illegitimate status may explain why he was not baptised until he was 15 and 1 day on 17th July 1857 Erwarton Parish Church, yet his abode his still given as Shotley. Thomas SPARROW (labourer) married Anna KNIGHTS (servant) daughter of Samuel Knights (labourer) at Trimley St Martin, Suffolk 20th November 1862. Their marriage certificate gives Anna's residence as Trimley St Martin, however the 1861 census, shows Anna living in Shotley as a servant to Benjamin SPURLING.

Children :- Anna (1863), William (1865), Eliza (1867), Joseph (1869), John (1872), Elizabeth (1874), Emily (1876), Ellen (1880), Maybell (1881), William (1885), Edith (1886) Violet Vera (1887),

Eliza SPARROW (1867-?)

Eliza was born 25th September 1867, at Shotley Suffolk. On the 1881 census Eliza was residing at Erwarton Hall, Erwarton, Suffolk as a "servant". Eliza's older sister Anna, a cook was also resident at the Hall. Eliza SPARROW married Benjamin CATCHPOLE (widower) on 19th November 1887 at St Nicholas Church Harwich, Essex. Eliza's residence at the time of marriage was Sutton, Suffolk and it is probable that she in was in domestic service there.
