In the name of God Amen; [Thymne?]
and twentieth
day
of April 1657 I Thomas
CHEWTER of
Wanborough
in the County of Surrey Yeoman being sick in body yet of
good
and perfect memory (thanks be given to God) does make and
ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to
say.
I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God [?] [?] if you trusting
through that [mighty?] of Jesus Christ to [?] everlasting life. And my Body to
be [?] this buried.
Item. I give and devise unto Dorothy
CHEWTER my wife all my tenements and lands of situate and being in the
parishes of
Wanborough
and Ash in the
County
of
Surrey
aforesaid. For and during the full time and term of six
years. If she [Jas?] [Longe?] liveth and continueth sake and summarised. And if
in case my said wife happen do die before the [du priafon?] of the land six
years. My will is that Nicholas CHEWTER
my son shall [maintain] his sisters Elizabeth
and Jane during the residue of the said term.
And [?] the determination of the
aforesaid six years decease or marriage then I will and devise all that my
tenements and lands in the
parish
of Ash
aforesaid to the use and behalf of Nicholas
CHEWTER my said son and heirs of his body lawfully begotten and so be
begotten. And for want of such issue to the use and behalf of Richard CHEWTER and the [heirs?] of his body lawfully begotten and
to begotten. And for [mand?] of such issue to the use and behalf of Jonathan
CHEWTER and his heirs forever, They or such of them shall first possessed of
the said Lands and Tenements within the space of three months, paying or causing
to be paid out of the aforesaid legacy unto my daughters (that is to say Dorothy CHEWTER,
Anne
CHEWTER, Joane
CHEWTER, Elizabeth CHEWTER and Jane CHEWTER) ten
pounds a piece.
And if [?] my aforesaid sons or their
heirs shall neglect or default to pay the aforesaid several portions then my
will and meaning to. And I do hereby Will and devise the winds, issues and
profits of the aforesaid Lands for and during the full time and [?] of five
yearly after or then of my three sons or their heirs shall possessed [?] of the
use and behalf of my said five daughters for and during the full time and [?] of
six yearly for the paying of their portion for (as aforesaid) [?] [?].
Item. I give will and devise all that my
other Tenements lands [?] unto belonging situate laying in the
parish
of
Wanborough
aforesaid after the determining of any monies shall be [?]
given unto [?] to the use and behalf of Richard
CHEWTER and the heirs his body lawfully begotten and so begotten, he paying
after he shall be possessed of the said lands and tenements by the space of one
whole year the sum of ten pounds to the said Jonathan CHEWTER or his assigns. And if it shall happen the said Richard
CHEWTER to die without issue then to the use and behalf of Jonathan
CHEWTER his heirs forever.
And if [?] my said son Richard shall [?] to pay the sum of ten pounds for by me bequeath
unto my son Jonathan this my Will is
that my son Jonathan shall have the said tenements and lands in
Wanborough
aforesaid paying to his brother
Richard twenty pounds after he shall be [thereof?] possessed by the space of
one whole year.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son
John CHEWTER five shillings.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son
George
CHEWTER ten
pounds of lawful money of
England
. To be paid to him within one year after my decease.
Item I give unto
James
CHEWTER my grandchild
five shillings.
Item I give and bequeath unto Dorothy
my wife my bed and bedstead and furniture there unto belonging standing in
the [?] chamber.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter
Dorothy CHEWTER five pounds
which

Dorothy my
Clarke
[?] [?] Cuff of two years old.
Item I give and bequeath unto my all the
rest of my goods and chattels un-bequeathed unto my son Nicholas CHEWTER whom I initiate and ordain the executor of this my
Last Will and Testament requiring from him do for [?] performed.
And I in [thanks?] my loving
friends John CLIFTON of
Worplesdon gent and Robert CHEWTER of
Ash aforesaid my [?] my and [?] of this my Last Will and testament.
In witness whereof I have [?] unto put
my hand and seal the

and year above written. Thomas
CHEWTER. Sealed delivered and published to be the Last Will and Testament of
the said Thomas CHEWTER in the presence
of Charles WHITAKER, John CLIFTON, John OACKER, Thomas STARY, Nicholas AVENELL,
the mark of Richard BIRTONONLD, the
mark of
William
WEDMAN.
This will was proved at
London
he third
day
of March in the year of our
Lord
God according to the conformation? Of the
Church
of England 1658 before the [?] for probate of Wills [?]
Administrations lawfully authorised by the oath of Nicholas CHEWTER the son and executor named in the said Will. To
whom was committed administration of all and singular the goods, chattels and
debts of the said deceased he being first sworn duly to administer.
