In the name
of God Amen. The twentieth
day
of February in the year of our
Lord
1654. I Richard BLAGRAVE of the
parish
of Wanborrow in the
county
of
Surrey
, Esquire, being sick and weak in
God but of sound and perfect memory, praise be given to Almighty God for the
same do much comforting device? And declare this my last will and testament in
manner and form following that is to say first I bequeath my soul into the hands
of Almighty God my only Orator and Redeemer.
And my body
is to be buried at the direction of my executrix hereafter named in this
respect.
And for
those temporal goods the
Lord
has been pleased to bestow upon
me I give and bequeath them in the manner and form following.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary BLAGRAVE sixty one pounds a year and every year during her
natural life to be paid her out of my lands at Winterbourne in the
parish
of Chieveley in the
county
of
Berks
all two
shall fray? or Warmdy? in the year - that is to say all the ? of Michael the
Merchangell and the ? of the ? Virgin Mary by ? and equal portions the first
payment to beginning the next ? or
day
of payment after my decease to be employed by my overseer hereinafore in
this entry? named for my said daughters maintenance and lively hood
And what shall ? ? I give and bequeath to my son Richard BLAGRAVE.
Item I give and bequeath to my brother
William
BLAGRAVE of Reading in the
county
of
Berks
the sum
of twenty shillings a year during his natural life to paid also out of my said
land at Winterbourne aforesaid.
Item I give and bequeath to be son Richard
BLAGRAVE all that my two farms and premises and appurtenances whatsoever in
any
wise
thereunto belonging situated lying and being in Winterbourne aforesaid
and being in the occupation of John
STANBROOK or his assigns and the other being in the occupation of widow
BLYSETT or her assigns.
To have ? and ? the same to him the said Richard BLAGRAVE and his ?
foreman
he and they paying there out the two Annuities before in their ….
and to four [?] within five years ?
after my decease
Item Out of the forementioned rents I do hereby appoint my said ? to
pay unto Richard

all such money that shall be du unto him for the boarding and schooling
of my said son Richard BLAGRAVE
and all such money at the hath discharge for him for ? for hid
up.
And also out of the said rents I do appoint my said Overseer

and my
self. And ? to pay Mr MONTAGUE of
Wokingham in the

all such money as shall be due unto him for boarding and schooling my
said son Richard BLAGRAVE.
Item if my said son Richard
BLAGRAVE shall happen to depart this life before he shall accomplish the age
of one and twenty years that then and in such case I give and bequeath the two
farms at Winterbourne in the
parish
of Chieveley aforementioned. As also the Loaf of
Bull
Land and
Long
Meade before mentioned to my Son
Benjamin BLAGRAVE.

Stratfield Saye in the said county of Southampton. And also all that my Loaf of

of Southampton [Hampshire or Hants].
Item. I give
and bequeath unto my said son Richard
BLAGRAVE the full ? of twenty pounds in household goods to be delivered unto
my said overseer

such case I give and bequeath all that my lease of any, my right and title to
land and other premises of

Southampton aforesaid unto my grandchild
Thomas PATCHING of the pight of Ifold in the county of Sussex and Elizabeth
his ? wife being daughter ? the oldest? of two? body lawfully begotten. And if
it shall happen my said grandchild Thomas
PATCHING to depart this life before he shall have such ? that then and in
such case I give and bequeath the said Lease Of Land and right and title to the
Land and other ? unto my said son
BLAGRAVE. And if it shall happen that my said son
Richard BLAGRAVE and my said son
Benjamin BLAGRAVE and my said grandchild
Thomas PATCHING shall depart this life either of them accomplishing the age
of one and twenty years. That then and in such case I give and bequeath the farm
at Winterbourne aforesaid that is now in the occupation of John
STANBROOK aforesaid to be sold by my overseer.
And of the money applying upon this said sale I give and bequeath the sum
one hundred pounds to Henry BLAGRAVE
one of the sons of my brother Henry
BLAGRAVE of Leckhampstead in the
County
of
Berks
.
And the
residue of the said money I give and bequeath to the ? Of my said brother Henry BLAGRAVE’s children to be divided equally between
then. And also in such case I give and bequeath that farm at Winterbourne
aforesaid that is in the occupation of widow
BLYSETT aforesaid to Richard BLAGRAVE
the said son of brother Edw? BLAGRAVE of

of Spoone in the
county
of
Berks

Item. I give
and bequeath to my son Benjamin BLAGRAVE
the sum of four hundred pounds of lawful
English
money to be spent out by my
executrix to and for the benefit and profit of my said son Benjamin BLAGRAVE within five years and a half years after my
decease. And if my said son Benjamin
BLAGRAVE shall happen to depart this life before he has accomplished the age
of one and twenty years that then and in such case I give and direct that the
said four hundred pounds and such profit or ? thereby unto my son Richard BLAGRAVE.
Item. I give
and bequeath to Ann the wife of Nicholas
LINTOTT, Edward WOOLASON, John WOOLASON, and MARY WOOLSON my wiby? Children
the sum of twenty shillings a piece.
Item. I give
and bequeath to all my Eobechant servants the sums of five shillings a piece.
Item. All
the rest of my money goods debts chattels and other premises whatsoever not
before mentioned I give and bequeath to my loving Wife Ann BLAGRAVE whom I do hereby make executrix to this my last will
and testament. She paying and faithfully ? all debts and sums of money as are
due from me to any person or persons whatsoever and not appointed before in
the profits to be otherwise payable.
And also
that she the said Ann BLAGRAVE my
wife shall in her widowhood within one years after my decease ? ? sufficient in
the Lands ? absolutely comitt and ? of allthe profit title or interest that she
? unto all and singular my Lands and Tenements and other ? lying and being in
the county of berks or offically within the Cornronate
Lord
Cranbourne for rent.
If my said wife Ann shall was ? forced to pay the said service to any other
lawfully claiming the same that then and in such cases I desire my overseer that
they will ago the ? they ran to ? ?

And I do
hereby appoint my loving brother
Gily BLAGRAVE of Spoome aforesaid and
Richard CHASS of Hartley Wyspell in the county of Southampton my loving
friend Thomas BRADFORD of Guildford in the county of Surrey and my loving son
in law Thomas PATCHING of Iford in the county of Sussex to be overseers to
this my last will and testament defining and herby empowering them to see the
same will executed according to the ? intent and meaning thereof
And I
bequeath them for their pains therein the sum of forty shillings a piece of
lawful
English
money. And if it shall happen
that any two of my said overseers shall depart this life before this my Will
shall be accomplished then I hereby define and appoint that those who shall be
left alive to choose two more in their roomey? That shall be dead. And for from
time to time the two living to choose two other to them until my Will and
testament shall be fully accomplished and in all things fulfilled.
